Iran Claims Qatar Stalls Investigation; Qatar Denies Allegations on Missing Pilots

by admin477351

Iran has leveled accusations against Qatar, claiming the Gulf nation is obstructing its efforts to investigate the disappearance of three Iranian pilots amid a recent conflict. In response, Qatar has firmly denied these allegations, asserting that it is not holding the pilots. An Iranian armed forces official, Mohammad Bagherzadeh, stated that a team of Iranian Air Force experts has been awaiting permission for months to travel to Qatar to conduct an investigation. He urged Doha to grant access and called on the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene.

Tehran has previously reported the recovery of the body of pilot Majid Kazemi, who was killed in an attack involving the US Al Udeid Air Base located in Qatar. Meanwhile, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed al-Ansari, refuted claims that the pilots were detained in Qatar. He clarified that the pilots allegedly violated Qatari airspace, and despite attempts to communicate with them, they received no response, prompting Qatar to take defensive measures.

Qatar stated that its search and rescue teams conducted operations to locate the missing pilots and their remains. The Qatari government also claimed it had coordinated with Iranian authorities regarding the transfer of the remains of one pilot who was successfully recovered. According to Qatar, Iranian officials were invited in April to dispatch a team to receive detailed information about the search and rescue mission, but no response was received from Iran.

The disagreement between Iran and Qatar unfolds against the backdrop of ongoing regional tensions involving Iran, the US, and other countries, following a conflict that erupted earlier this year. Qatar has been playing a crucial diplomatic role, aiming to reduce tensions and facilitate dialogue among the involved parties. The situation underscores the complex relationships and diplomatic challenges in the region.
