Indonesia Defines Roles for Deputy Finance Ministers to Enhance Fiscal Management

by admin477351

Indonesia’s Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara has delineated the responsibilities for three newly appointed deputy finance ministers, aiming to enhance the management of the nation’s fiscal policies. This strategic move is designed to sharpen focus on vital areas such as the financial sector, state revenue, and expenditure, while maintaining cohesive oversight of the country’s overall fiscal management.

Deputy Finance Minister Juda Agung will be responsible for overseeing the financial sector, international affairs, and financing. Meanwhile, Nurkholisoh Ibnu Aman will focus on state revenue, which includes taxes, customs and excise duties, and non-tax revenue. Luky Alfirman has been tasked with managing state expenditure, treasury operations, and the distribution of funds to regional governments. Despite these distinct areas of focus, Nazara emphasized that the deputies will continue to collaborate on the ministry’s broader management, including organizational matters, human resources, and budgetary concerns.

The appointments come under Presidential Decree No. 104P of 2026, which formalized the roles of Agung, Alfirman, and Nurkholisoh as key supporters of the finance minister. Alfirman brings extensive experience as a senior official within the Finance Ministry, while Nurkholisoh has a background as an economist and researcher at Bank Indonesia.

In conjunction with these administrative changes, Nazara reported a significant increase in Indonesia’s state revenue, reaching approximately 2,341.5 trillion rupiah by September 2026. This figure marks a 25.5% increase compared to the same period last year and accounts for 74.2% of the government’s revenue target for the year.

The reallocation of responsibilities to the deputy finance ministers is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Indonesia’s fiscal administration, as the country continues to navigate the complexities of revenue collection, public spending, and regional funding. By dividing these key responsibilities, the Finance Ministry aims to improve both focus and coordination in managing the nation’s economic resources.
