In a bid to enhance collaboration between Vietnam and northeastern Cambodia, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Minh Vũ recently led a delegation to the Cambodian provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie. The visit aimed to bolster ties between Vietnamese localities and these Cambodian regions, while also assessing the activities of Vietnamese businesses and the conditions of the Vietnamese-origin community residing there.
Meetings with local leaders centered on expanding cooperation in multiple sectors, including trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials emphasized the strengthening relationships with Vietnamese provinces facilitated through various cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and development projects. Kratie province, in particular, commended the significant progress made in diplomatic and socio-economic cooperation with Vietnam, highlighting contributions to infrastructure development and collaborative efforts in locating and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who perished during wartime in Cambodia.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ acknowledged the positive impact of Vietnamese enterprises engaged in agriculture, mining, and rubber production in Cambodia. These ventures, he noted, have played a vital role in boosting local economic growth and reinforcing bilateral ties between the two nations. Stung Treng province authorities highlighted the area’s potential for investment in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, urging more Vietnamese businesses to explore these opportunities.
During his visit, the ambassador also engaged with representatives of the Vietnamese-origin community to address legal and livelihood concerns. He encouraged adherence to local laws and emphasized the importance of supporting education and sustainable development. Vietnam’s economic footprint in Cambodia is significant, with over 200 investment projects amounting to approximately $3 billion in registered capital, positioning it as one of Cambodia’s largest foreign investors.
