New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung are in discussions about a potential visit by Mamdani to Jakarta. This follows a meeting between the two officials in New York last month. During their discussions, they explored common urban challenges such as public transportation, traffic congestion, flooding, air pollution, and urban development financing.

Governor Pramono indicated that while there are reports about Mamdani possibly visiting Jakarta for a conference in late October, no official confirmation has been made. The discussions regarding the visit are in preliminary stages, and any official announcement will be made once plans are finalized.

During their meeting at the U20 Mayors Summit 2026, Mamdani showed interest in Jakarta’s initiatives to reduce traffic congestion and enhance public transportation. In response, Pramono highlighted the development of Transjabodetabek, a regional transportation network aimed at better connecting Jakarta with nearby cities and regencies.

Additionally, the dialogue between the two leaders included a focus on municipal financing strategies. Governor Pramono shared Jakarta’s plans to issue municipal bonds, referred to as Jakarta Bonds, to fund infrastructure and development projects. Mayor Mamdani offered to facilitate collaboration between the financial teams of New York and Jakarta, aiming to share expertise on municipal bond issuance and financing strategies.
