Renowned Canadian voice actor Peter Cullen, celebrated for his roles as Optimus Prime in the Transformers series and Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh, has passed away at 85. Cullen died on Wednesday at his Los Angeles residence, with his family by his side, as confirmed by a family statement.
Born in Montreal, Cullen embarked on his career in Canadian television and radio, eventually becoming a prominent figure in the voice acting world. He first brought life to Optimus Prime in the 1984 Transformers animated series, a role he reprised in seven blockbuster films from 2007 to 2023, along with numerous other spin-offs. Cullen’s portrayal of the iconic Autobot leader left an indelible mark on fans across generations.
Besides his work on Transformers, Cullen was well-loved for voicing Eeyore, the endearingly gloomy donkey in Winnie the Pooh. His association with the character spanned multiple television series, films, and video games, most notably in The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Cullen’s versatility extended to other memorable performances, including KARR in Knight Rider, the menacing sounds of the creature in the 1987 movie Predator, and the voice of King Kong in the 1976 film remake.
