Indonesia’s gasoline and aviation fuel prices are among the lowest in Southeast Asia, according to the country’s state-owned energy company. The nation offers the cheapest RON 92 gasoline, known locally as Pertamax, at approximately Rp15,950 ($0.89) per liter, a rate significantly more affordable than in Singapore, the Philippines, and Thailand.
In terms of RON 95 gasoline, Indonesia maintains a competitive edge with prices around Rp19,150 ($1.07) per liter. This is lower compared to Malaysia’s Rp19,822, Thailand’s Rp21,412, the Philippines’ Rp25,288, and Singapore’s Rp48,795 per liter. Additionally, Indonesia boasts the lowest aviation fuel prices in the region, set at roughly Rp20,190 ($1.13) per liter. Vietnam follows closely with aviation fuel priced at Rp20,619, while other countries such as Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia have considerably higher costs.
For diesel fuel, Indonesia ranks third in affordability within Southeast Asia, priced at about Rp25,200 ($1.41) per liter, behind Vietnam and Malaysia. These comparisons underscore Indonesia’s relatively competitive fuel pricing across several major fuel categories in the region.
The strategic pricing of Indonesia’s fuel products provides a significant economic advantage, potentially influencing both domestic consumption and regional trade dynamics. However, these low prices also raise questions about sustainability and potential subsidies that enable such competitive rates.
