A new global power bloc has been born, and the United States may have been the unwitting midwife. The US-led trade war has had the unintended consequence of pushing India, China, and Russia into a closer alliance, a reality that was on full display at the recent SCO summit.
This “unintended alliance” has been flagged by American analyst Van Jones as a “historically big deal.” He warned that the sight of Narendra Modi, Xi Jinping, and Vladimir Putin united in purpose should be a “chilling” one for Americans, as it signals the rise of a “new world order” that can challenge the US.
The summit was a masterclass in signalling. Against the backdrop of escalating tariffs, the three leaders showcased their ability to cooperate and lead without Washington’s involvement. It was a clear message that American economic pressure will be met with strategic realignment, not capitulation.
Jones explained the dangerous new position the US finds itself in, stating it is now “in a box” and on the “bad side of the triangle.” The world has been reconfigured, he argued, into a state where “it’s everybody against us,” a profoundly negative outcome for the United States.
