Chinese President Xi Jinping’s address at the APEC forum in Gyeongju, South Korea, was a clear call for global cooperation. Speaking after securing a one-year trade deal with the US, he urged nations to “join hands.”
Xi warned against “breaking supply chains” and advocated for “genuine multilateralism.” He stated that nations should “actively seek more points of convergence of interests.”
This speech follows a breakthrough meeting with President Donald Trump. The resulting pact includes the US slashing some tariffs and export controls.
In exchange, China agreed to buy US soybeans and to pause any new restrictions on the export of rare earth minerals. This commitment averts a potential 100% US import tax.
The US also agreed to delay a contentious tech-restriction rule for one year. Xi praised the dialogue, stating it was “always better than confrontation” and would bring “peace of mind” to the world.
