How Instagram Is Closing the Feature Gap with TikTok and YouTube

by admin477351

Instagram is taking decisive steps to close the feature gap with its main rivals, TikTok and YouTube, by testing Picture-in-Picture (PiP) for Reels and launching a dedicated iPad app. These updates address long-standing criticisms and modernize the platform’s user experience.

The PiP feature, a standard on competing platforms for years, is a critical addition. By allowing videos to play in a floating window outside the app, Instagram is finally offering the multitasking capabilities that users have come to expect. This move is essential for staying competitive in the fierce battle for user attention.

The benefits are twofold. Users get a more convenient and flexible viewing experience, while creators get a powerful tool to increase their watch time and engagement metrics. The feature is currently in a limited test phase, with a broader rollout dependent on its success. It will also be optional.

The launch of the iPad app is another example of Instagram playing catch-up, but doing so effectively. The new app provides an optimized, full-screen experience that is far superior to the previous stretched-out phone app, making the platform more viable and enjoyable for tablet users.
